Frequently asked questions (FAQ)

Where are you based?

I have a fully kitted-out teaching studio in Rotherham town centre, 5 minutes from the bus and train stations. I am based on the top floor of the Rotherham Open Arts Renaissance space: Westgate, Rotherham, S60 1AN.

For anyone wondering about disabled access there is a fully functioning lift right to my floor for anyone who may need to use it, including those carrying heavy equipment.

Please contact me via email or Facebook for more information, including detailed directions and where the best car parking spaces are!

Also, you can use
Trainline to check the times of your local train as Rotherham train station is within a short walk from my studio.

Do you teach beginners and younger students?

Absolutely! I teach students of all ages and abilities. I do everything I can to make it simple for you to get to grips with the instrument even if you have no experience at all!

I teach anyone of any age and ability - it’s never too late to start learning!

How much are lessons?

My lesson prices are competitively priced and there are no limits on how many half an hour slots a student can book but I recommend younger and beginner students take 30-minute lessons while I find that intermediate and advanced level students (grades 4-8 and above) benefit from longer lessons. Please see here or contact me for full pricing options.

If I learn with you, do I have to do grades and exams?

No, many of my students want to learn for pleasure and do not want to sit exams. However, if you want to take exams you'll be in safe hands as I have a 100% pass-rate! I offer tuition with RSL Awards (Rockschool and Classical) as well as ABRSM (Classical).

Which songs or type of music can we learn in our lessons?

Absolutely anything you like! I am happy to help you learn any and all genres of music. I plan each lesson so it is unique to each student, creating lessons based on each learner’s specific needs and wishes.

I also have a large catalogue of musical resources which I have collected over my 20+ years of teaching. These include music books, music magazines and a large collection of recorded music!

Do I need to bring my own equipment?

Not at all as I have a fully-furbished teaching studio! Although, I do recommend that you have an instrument to practise on at home.

Which instruments do you teach?

I teach most types of guitar (electric, acoustic, classical and bass guitar), ukulele, piano and keyboard, music theory, composition and improvisation.

I also offer lessons in performance skills and exam preparation.

Can you help me with my songwriting?

Most certainly! I have considerable experience with songwriting and composition and recently completed a Master of Arts degree in composition with Distinction. Some of my students have recorded and released albums and gone on to promote their recorded work with live performances!

Can I get some advice or assistance with my GCSE or A-Level coursework?

Most certainly, although I can’t do your work for you. Please do contact me to discuss your needs so we can make a start right away!

Where can I go to find out more information or ask any further questions?

It’s really easy to get in touch with me. You can either call or send a text to 07849012962, send an email to info@musictuitionrotherham.co.uk, send me a private message on Facebook or send me a direct message on Twitter.

To find out more about me, you can have a look at the Experience section where you find all sorts of details on my musical activities over the years.

If you still have questions, don’t be afraid to send an email, a text, or give me a call!
