As a musician and artist I enjoy many different varieties of art. Rotherham and Sheffield have a lot to offer in the creative arts. I will often use my
Twitter feed to share new exhibitions and interesting artistic events, so please keep track by following me!
Access Space is a fantastic independent artistic space in Sheffield, only 5 minutes walk from the train and bus stations! With regular artistic and musical exhibitions, as well as workshops and educational experiences, Access Space is definitely one to check out - get in touch to ask about hosting your own event! Many exhibitions are free but you can also find out about paid events on their website. With really friendly staff who are artists and musicians in their own right as well as a regular program of events, why not get involved with what they have to offer?
DINA has a constantly packed schedule of music, visual and performance art, comedy and food and drink! There is always something happening for you to check out and get involved with. DINA can be hired out for your own exhibition or event or even party as they have several fully-licensed bars!
Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival (HCMF) is one of the largest contemporary music festivals in Europe! Okay, so it’s not exactly local to Rotherham but it sure is amazing! Huddersfield is very easy and cheap to get to on the train from Sheffield or Meadowhall, passing through some amazing countryside on the way. Hosted at the University of Huddersfield, there are often workshops and free events but the program is always crammed full of music and artistic creations of all kinds. The HCMF usually takes place in November with tickets available online.
Millennium Gallery is situated in the heart of Sheffield, only 5 minutes walk from the train and bus stations. The gallery hosts large exhibitions and collections which are free to view or you can leave a donation. Check out the website to keep up to date with the ever-changing program!
Rotherham Open Arts Renaissance (ROAR) is not only where I deliver my music tuition but it has also been supporting emerging and professional artists since 2005, and is a National Portfolio Organisation, funded by the Arts Council. ROAR has a regular timetable of weekly and monthly classes as well as a gallery. Check out the website to find out more and to see what is happening this month!
