Returning to face-to-face teaching

It's been a difficult period for us all, being locked down and staying home. Thank you to everyone who stuck with their tuition through the 14 months I delivered from home, and another huge thank you and welcome to all new students!

It's not been easy for any of us but thankfully we've got through it.

In my custom teaching studio I now have COVID-safe measures in place:

• a large mobile screen so we can conduct any lesson, including sight-singing
• 2m distancing for students and accompanying adults
• adequate ventilation
• hand sanitising and regular cleaning after every session

I also now have a digital solution to passing pages and working from books: a clear monitor on which I can put sight reading or other exercises for you to see in lesson! (This also doubles as a handy solution for forgetting your music!)

If you're not yet ready to recommence with face-to-face, or would prefer to continue online lessons, you're more than welcome to continue online!

I look forward to seeing you all soon.

Welcome back from February half term, 2020

Welcome back to you all after what I hope has been a long and restful half term break!

No doubt everyone has taken the opportunity to spend some extra time on their chosen instrument, as well as relaxing and enjoying some well-deserved down time! I look forward to hearing you play tonight and through the rest of this week.
See you all very soon!

Rated top three music schools TWO YEARS running!

Another speedy update:

I'm really pleased to announce that I've been awarded the top three music schools in Rotherham for the second year in a row by Three Best Rated!

Thank you very much to everyone for their hard work - please keep this up over the winter break that is almost upon us!

Interview in Chase magazine

Last month I was interviewed about my creative and teaching practice by marketing and communications assistant for ROAR, Amy Forde.

I've had the pleasure of being interviewed for various things in the past, but this was rather more personal than I've been used to and Amy had a very natural manner and way of asking questions that I found really got me talking. I think Amy is clearly very skilled as she was able to create a succinct and sensible article from my disorganised and (perhaps) frenetic ramblings!

Many thanks, Amy for approaching me about this and for writing so many wonderful words.

You can read a PDF of the article or visit the Chase magazine website (pages 36-37).

Staying cool through the summer exam period

Here we are, at last: the final term before the summer break!

For many, this is a time of examinations: GCSEs, A-Levels and, of course, music examinations! As we know, with examinations comes hard work and often stress.

I'm currently busy preparing my dedicated and hardworking students for their upcoming exams and wanted to share some advice from the professional examiners at RSL Awards.

This short video gives some excellent advice on performing under pressure and also shows us that it's okay to feel nervous before an exam. Not only that, the video also gives some fantastic advice about picking the piece back up and recovering following mistakes!
